Film discussion at Skidompha Library Nov. 29
The Midcoast Green Collaborative and the Midcoast Outreach and Peace Center invite you to view and discuss Jeremy Rifkin’s film "The Third Industrial Revolution" on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2-4 p.m. in the Skidompha Public Library’s Porter Room, Main Street, Damariscotta.
Professor Rifkin’s long-term economic sustainability plan to address the triple challenge of climate change, the global economy, and energy security was formally endorsed by the European Parliament in 2007 and is now being implemented by various agencies within the European Commission. Rifkin is a consultant on sustainability to the European Union and to several heads of state. He teaches at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he instructs senior corporate management from around the world on global trends in science, technology, and commerce, and their impacts on the economy, society and the environment. The film and discussion will focus on the threat posed by climate change and the possibilities of addressing it with 21st century ideas and technology.
This is the first of three linked programs, free to the public, focusing on Climate and the Economy: Where We Are and What We Can Do.
The second program, on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2-4 p.m., will be a panel discussion by area legislators and local experts on developing a Comprehensive Energy Plan for Maine.
The third program, on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, 2-4 p.m., "An Optimist’s Approach to Climate Change," will be presented by Paul Kando, who teaches a course on the same subject at the Belfast Senior College. Discussion will follow.
