Fundraiser for Peggy Collins at Little Brown Church
The Little Brown Church in Round Pond village will host a benefit concert on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. featuring local Celtic, folk and country performers. The proceeds of the concert will help support Peggy Collins and her family in her battle against a cancerous brain tumor. She is self employed as a cleaning woman and is well known for her care-giving of local elders and children.
Currently on the bill are Castlebay - Julia Lane and Fred Gosbe - and their Celtic and maritime songs with Lane playing Celtic harp and Gosbe on guitar, fiddle and woodwinds. Touring throughout the east coast, the British Isles and Ireland, their music takes an audience on a journey through time and across the Atlantic. Their many recordings feature both traditional and original music.
Nancy Jones, a retired schoolteacher, sings and plays guitar, pennywhistle, and fiddle in the Midcoast band, The Rusty Hinges. An enthusiastic performer, she is starting an adult ed class at Medomak Valley High School in September called “Music, Share the Joy " where folks can come and collect songs and have fun. Kathi Nordone, a songwriter and singer, plays honest, country flavored original songs and has released five recordings. She performs throughout the Midcoast, recently at the Boothbay 4th of July celebration and the Palermo Bluegrass Festival. Guitarist Mark Jespersen will also join the program as well as possible other musicians.
In addition to the music, a variety of baked goods and refreshments will be on sale. Come enjoy an afternoon of music and caring community.
Admission is by donation with a suggestion of $10. For more information, contact castlebay@castlebay.net.
