Major kudos to Wiscasset fire officers, the full board of selectmen and Town Manager Marian Anderson for getting together Tuesday night to help clear the air on car-washing and other issues.

In just over an hour, they came further than they've been able to come in months toward a resolution on the ban. More on that in our Page 1 story, but in a nutshell, a deal is possible, maybe even imminent. A petition may be able to be avoided. And none of it would have happened but for the willingness of both parties, all servants of the town, to come to the table.

It was mostly cordial. And the moments that were less so did not denigrate into raised voices. It was professional and coherent despite, by the end, an array of topics having been covered. Some of those are food for thought we'll probably comment on here another time, and so will you, we hope, in letters to the editor.

But for now, it was just good to be able to see some movement after a spring and summer of some discontent. And moreover, we like how it was handled, by everyone.
