Good turnout for Alna Fire Department supper
About 250 suppers were served at the Alna Fire Department’s Oct. 3 fundraiser, Department President Kathy Pendleton said. Saturday’s event benefited the department’s nonprofit arm; the amount raised was still being figured.
Pendleton described the turnout as good for the supper held at the fire station on Route 218. She credited townspeople with coming through for the department with pies and other items.
“We couldn’t do it without them,” she said about the residents who contribute to the meals.
The suppers attract people from Alna and nearby towns. Newcastle’s James Patten estimated he has been coming to the department’s suppers for about 15 years. He volunteers at the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum in Alna, so he likes to support Alna’s fire department, he said.
