High energy CÒIG returns for Celtic Christmas in Bath
Back by popular demand, the Chocolate Church Arts Center welcomes driving, vibrant sounds of CÒIG (pronounced "Ko-ig"). COIG’s Christmas concert is on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will showcase new original material and Christmas favorites.
This exciting ensemble is one of Cape Breton’s most captivating bands. With driving tunes, haunting songs, and infectious energy, Còig is an unparalleled musical force. These talented and enthusiastic musicians easily shift between century old tunes of past generations to original and contemporary compositions, featuring the bands range of over a dozen instruments (vocals, fiddles, piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more). Much of the music of the Cape Breton region is Celtic in nature, but originates in the local area and celebrates the sea, seafaring, fishing and other primary industries.
Fiddler Chrissy Crowley joins Rachel Davis on fiddle, viola and vocals. Pianist Jason Roach offers an unparalleled intensity on the keys, while Darren McMullen commands guitar, mandolin, mandola, banjo, bouzouki, whistles, flute and vocals.
With a combined total of over 30 nominations and awards, each of Còig’s talented musicians have released their own successful solo albums, and have toured both at home and abroad before coming together as this exciting super group. Their work has earned the band the 2014 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Album of the Year, the Music Nova Scotia Award for Traditional/Roots Recording of the Year, and most recently, the 2015 East Coast Music Award for Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year.
Còig is a treat for the ears of every audience they meet. Tickets are $28 in advance/$32 at the door. Tickets are available online www.chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling the box office 207-442-8455. This show is sponsored by Shankman and Associates.
