‘It’s All About Cardio’ workshop Feb. 24
If someone asked you what the deadliest illness in the country is, what would you say? Many would probably say cancer. However, they would be mistaken. The deadliest illness in America is actually cardiovascular disease. During American Heart Month, February 2017, show your heart that you care about its health. Take the first beat towards keeping your heart healthy on Feb. 24, 9:15 a.m. by joining Advanced Professional Senior Fitness Instructor and Trainer Robin Maginn for an "It's All About Cardio" workshop at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta.
Cardiovascular (Cardio) exercise is just as important to include in your exercise program as strength and flexibility training. The guidelines published by the American College of Sports Medicine suggest 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise five days a week, or vigorous cardio 20 minutes a day, three days a week. This means getting into your target heart rate for aerobic and anaerobic training. All activity is beneficial. However, to get the maximum benefits such as weight loss, stronger heart and lungs, better circulation, among other benefits, you must get into your training zone.
Keeping your heart healthy should be a top priority. Wear Red and join Robin for a discussion on how to maximize your exercise program with cardiovascular exercise on Feb. 24. To register for Robin's February fitness and wellness workshop call 563-1363. Robin's workshops are opening to community members across all generations. No membership or age requirements. Home schooled students welcome. Participant Fee: $10. Participation in Robin's workshop will assist you in achieving your Dashing to Denmark Winter Activity Challenge.
