Lincoln County Republicans to meet May 22
The monthly meeting of Lincoln County Republicans will be held Wednesday, May 22 at the Wiscasset Community Center. Beginning at 6 p.m., the public is invited to attend the speakers’ portion of the meeting. Representative Heidi Sampson will speak about education in Maine which should be of interest to administrators, educators, staff, current and future school board members and concerned citizens. Ron Russell will follow Sampson and describe his rationale for running for the Maine Legislature in District 1. Doors open at 5:30 for the public, speakers begin at 6. A business meeting will follow at 7. Only Registered Republicans are welcomed to attend the LCRC business meeting.
All are invited to hear Representative Sampson. Heidi is finishing her fourth term in the Maine Legislature as the ranking Republican on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee. When she terms-out this year, she will continue to focus her energies on improving K-12 education opportunities. Heidi will address the decline in achievement of Maine’s students, the next steps to address those deficits and strategies to improve education for the foreseeable future.
Following representative Sampson will be Ron Russell, a Fort Fairfield native and West Point graduate who became a Green Beret and served over 30 years as an Infantry Army Officer. Now retired from the military, Ron owns and operates a business that supports the U.S. Defense Department. He will elaborate on the benefits of having a smaller government which rewards ingenuity and an entrepreneurial spirit. If elected, he will work to lower taxes, focus education on achievement, support parental primacy and limit over-reaching regulations and mandates that harm small businesses and the consumer.
