LincolnHealth offering falls prevention program
Improve your balance and reduce your risk of falling at LincolnHealth’s popular falls prevention program, “Balancing Act.” This free, four-week program will be held at the Wellness and Rehabilitation Department on the LincolnHealth - St. Andrews Campus in Boothbay Harbor. Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. starting Wednesday, May 3.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among persons aged 65 years and older. Program instructors will show participants special exercises and educational videos, use gym equipment, and evaluate progress with balance screenings to help improve their balance.
Balancing Act participants have described the program as “very informative,” “the best they have taken,” and having “great presentations and camaraderie.”
About 75 percent of participants in previous sessions of this class showed significant improvement in fall risk screening tests six weeks after the classes ended.
Balancing Act will be led by Physical Therapist Heather Brewer and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Deborah Hidu.
Space is limited. Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to register by Friday, April 28.
For more information and/or to register, call (207) 633-1928 or email Debbie at debbie.hidu@lchcare.org.
