Living well with Parkinson's: Lecture and new support group
The LincolnHealth St. Andrews Wellness Department will be hosting board certified neurologist, John L. Dolan III, DO, on June 16 at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Wellness and Rehabilitation Center on the LincolnHealth St. Andrews Campus, located at 6 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
Nolan will be speaking on the topic of “Living Well With Parkinson’s Disease.” Covering the challenges and considerations of Parkinson’s, the presentation will kick off a monthly Parkinson’s Support Group in Boothbay, modeled after a successful Support Group in Damariscotta.
The group meets to share ideas and suggestions of how to better manage their symptoms of Parkinson’s. Light refreshments will be served.
The symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are unique to each individual, but frequently include physical tremor, stiff muscles, rigidity, and balance issues. Memory, speech, swallowing and sleep can also be affected. The Damariscotta Support Group has found that shared information from doctors as well as the support of their peers is very useful in their recovery.
The experience of discussing their individual challenges helps Parkinson’s patients know that they are not alone and realize positive solutions for living successfully with the illness. The St. Andrews Wellness and Rehabilitation Department also offers specialty rehabilitation services that are designed specifically for people living with Parkinson’s.
