Maine State Music Theatre 2014: ‘One-Man Star Wars Trilogy,’ ‘Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story’ and more
Maine State Music Theatre’s 2014 season will explode on stage on Wednesday, June 4. While season tickets have been and remain currently available, single tickets to individual shows are on sale, April 30 starting at 9 a.m. Many shows will sell out, so call to get your tickets today. Tickets will be available online at www.msmt.org, over the phone by calling 207-725-8769, or in person by visiting the Box Office located at 22 Elm Street in Brunswick. Starting May 27, the box office will be located in the Pickard Theatre for the duration of the season.
The theatre’s 2014 season fires up on June 4 with “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story,” which has been selling out across the nation. Featuring numbers like “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be The Day,” and “Maybe Baby,” audiences are sure to be tapping their feet, clapping their hands, and singing along all night.
On June 25, it's the opening of “Chamberlain: A Civil War Romance.” Telling the tale of Maine’s local hero, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, this show explores how a man must decide between his family and his civic duty. You won’t want to miss the victory of the North retold on the Pickard stage. This will be the grandest show of our season.
“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” opens July 16 and will be the biggest dance spectacle to hit Brunswick since “42nd Street.” “Goin’ Courtin” has never been so much fun!
The final show of the season is “Footloose,” which kicks off August 6. With hits like “Almost Paradise,” “Let’s Hear It For The Boy,” and “Footloose,” you’ll be sure to “cut loose” all the way home.
Tickets to the theatre’s mainstage productions range from $38 to $63. Subscriptions are the best way to ensure seats for all four shows.
The theatre is also offering three special Monday night concert events beginning with “The One-Man Star Wars Trilogy” on June 16 at 7 p.m. The extremely talented Canadian actor Charles Ross single-handedly plays all the characters, sings the music, flies the ships, fights the battles and condenses the plots into just sixty minutes. Ross is so popular, the theatre had to book him two years in advance, so get your tickets now. You won’t get the chance to see him again until you’re in “a galaxy far, far away.”
On July 28, a concert version of “Godspell” will bring “all good gifts” to the Pickard Stage. Written by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote the smash hits Wicked and Pippin, this concert will be one to remember.
Then, on August 11, “Footlight Follies” will return! Last year’s most popular event will grace the multiple stages again for an evening of songs, skits and silliness combining the best of talents provided by community members, our own acting company, staff, board of trustees and surprise guests. Tickets to the theatre’s special concert events range from $20 to $40.
The theatre also offers two great opportunities to enlighten children at the theatre:
On June 1, “The Teacher From The Black Lagoon” will be presented at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
On August 18, the theatre’s nationally recognized Intern Company produces a unique retelling of “The Little Mermaid.” This interpretation is written by Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, and favorite seasonal director and choreographer, Marc Robin.
Tickets to theatre’s children’s musicals range from $10 to $14 and school groups and camp groups are welcome.
All performances take place at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College located at 1 Bath Road in Brunswick. For more information about show times and ticket prices, visit www.msmt.org or call the box office at 207-725-8769.
