Maine State Trooper allegedly assaulted in Gardiner
A Portland man faces a number of charges after he assaulted a State Trooper Tuesday, May 5 after his car was stopped on I-295 in Gardiner for speeding. Allegedly found in the car was $10,000 in cash, Oxycodone pills, heroin and some marijuana.
Andre Hicks, 27, of Portland is charged with assaulting a police officer, possession of heroin, criminal mischief, obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct.
Hicks was a passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend, 23-year-old Michelle Bourget of Portland. Trooper Mark Ferreira stopped the car for speeding and as Hicks was being searched outside the car, Hicks lowered his shoulders and rammed the trooper into the driving lane of the four lane highway. As the two was wrestling on the road, other motorists stopped to help and Hicks was subdued and handcuffed.
A search of the car found the money hidden behind the glove box.
Bourget was also arrested and charged with possessing Suboxone. Both were taken to the Kennebec County Jail.
