Man arrested after alleged drunken walk down Route 27
A Damariscotta man who was arrested in 2014 for domestic violence assault was rearrested and charged with violating the conditions of his release on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Nathan Herald, 26, of Damariscotta was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Seekins on Tuesday, Jan. 13 after someone called to report a man in dark clothing walking along Route 27 in Wiscasset.
The caller reported that someone wearing dark clothing was walking along the middle of the road near Wiscasset High School and Foye Road. When Seekins arrived, he reportedly found Herald “staggering and limping” south in the northbound lane, according to the arrest report.
When Seekins approached Herald he could allegedly smell an “intoxicating beverage” on him. As part of Herald's conditions of release from his April arrest, he was ordered not to use or possess alcohol.
When Herald was brought to Two Bridges Regional Jail, Deputy Jared Mitkus performed an intoxication test and found that Herald's blood alcohol content was allegedly 0.17.
Herald was charged with Class E violating the conditions of release, which carries with a maximum penalty of six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
Herald was originally arrested in April 2014 after an alleged drunken altercation between Herald and another man. It was alleged that Herald and another man had an argument on April 15, which culminated in Herald allegedly shoving the victim to the ground before reportedly being struck with a chainsaw bar.
Following the incident, Herald was arrested by the Damariscotta Police Department and charged with domestic violence assault.
At the time of his arrest on Jan. 13, he was on post-conviction bail for a deferred disposition.
