Miles & St. Andrews nurse achieves wound care certification
Thanks to a generous scholarship awarded by the St. Andrews Auxiliary, Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice (MSAHHH), nurse Samantha McLellan has achieved a prestigious certification in wound care management after attending a highly-intensive week-long Skin & Wound Management Course in Boston taught by the Wound Care Education Institute.
Miles & St. Andrews Home & Health & Hospice nurses treat all types of wounds, including pressure ulcers, venous stasis wounds, arterial ulcers, diabetic wounds, trauma wounds, burns, and surgical wounds. Their home care team works closely with their patients, families and caregivers to provide education on how to assist with the wound healing process.
“The effect wounds have on our patients can be physically and emotionally taxing,” said McLellan. “Wounds often take a long time to heal, may be painful, and can limit a patient’s function. I’ve been a nurse for seven years and the opportunity to learn about the very latest wound care treatments and modalities from such highly-experienced instructors is a career highlight.”
“We are very proud of Sam for this achievement, and grateful to the Auxiliary for making this important nursing education possible,” said MSAHHH Executive Director Kathy Bean, RN. “Her advanced training and certification, coupled with her willingness to mentor her nursing colleagues, will have a profound impact on the work we do ensuring our patients have the best possible outcomes.”
