Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty
Molly Holmberg Brown show at Damariscotta location
Opening reception: Friday, May 3, 5 - 7 p.m.
The Damariscotta Office of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty is pleased to be hosting an art show featuring Molly Holmberg Brown and a selection of work from her “MollyMaps.” The show is entitled “The Vast Pelagic: works from an artist-at-sea.” It will run through July 5.
In Molly’s words “I combine elements of cartographic design and landscape painting to create fresh visual expressions of place. I work in acrylic, watercolor, and relief printmaking. In all these mediums, I seek to encounter the necessary, yet problematic challenges of representing place as both a phenomenological experience and a specific, geographic feature.”
The work in the current show was created at sea while Molly joined an oceanographic expedition as an “artist-at-sea” on a trip from Hawaii to Samoa. “During the two week journey across this vast and deep section of the equatorial Pacific, my job was to create ways of communicating the current scientific research and deep-sea mapping technologies aboard the Falkor. But in addition, I could not help be overwhelmed by the astounding power and beauty and scale of the open ocean. The works in this exhibit portray a true exploration of the vast pelagic world and how we attempt to navigate it and know it for ourselves.”
Molly is delightful and the work fascinating! Please join us for an opening reception for Molly on Friday, May 3, 5-7 p.m. and enjoy an assortment of wine and light appetizers. Additionally, all are encouraged to stop at the office located at 170 Main Street to see the show during regular office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
