Music of a new frequency: ‘Spring Fire’
Vocal innovators Anna Dembska and Andrea Goodman will join voices to celebrate the Vernal Equinox, Friday, March 20, in a concert of spontaneous songs, improvisational journeys, and vibrational transmissions at 7 p.m.
These groundbreaking sonic explorers have combined their voices and original compositions in concert since their 1986 collaboration, “It's Gonna Be,” at La Mama Experimental Theater Club in New York City.
Goodman moved to Maine 26 years ago from New York City, where she performed as an original member of the Meredith Monk Vocal Ensemble. She performs with Figures of Speech Theatre. Goodman offers vocal instruction, sound healing, astrology, and sacred ceremonies at Ruby-Throated Spirit in Boothbay.
Composer and soprano Dembska has performed her original music and theater works in venues ranging from Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, to the Stonington Opera House, where her opera collaboration with Brooksville poet Beatrix Gates, “The Singing Bridge,” premiered in 2005.
Dembska directs the Schoodic Summer Chorus in Winter Harbor and teaches voice and musicianship in Downeast and Midcoast Maine.
Goodman and Dembska draw on years of sonic collaboration in vocal exploration to evoke essences of astrological moments, plant spirits, and alternate realities, merging ceremony and performance.
The 7 p.m. experience will be held at the Belfast Dance Studio located at 109 High Street in Belfast. Suggested donation: $10.
