New award recognizes compassionate nursing care
There is now an easy way for LincolnHealth patients to recognize the great care they received from the LH nursing staff.
On Sept. 17, The LincolnHealth Nursing Council will begin participating in an internationally-recognized award program known as the DAISY Award. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses celebrates the compassionate care of nurses, honoring the super-human work that nurses do at the bedside every day.
Founded in 1999, the award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes to recognize the outstanding care both he and his family received as he struggled with the auto-immune disease ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura.) During that difficult time the entire Barnes Family received the kind of care that they describe as “the best of nursing.” Led by Patrick’s wife Tena, they decided to create a way to say “thank you” in an enduring way.
“The DAISY Award, which stands for ‘diseases attacking the immune system’ pays tribute to nurses who exemplify the standard of heartfelt care that Patrick and his family received during his illness,” said LincolnHealth Chief Nursing Officer Christine Anderson.
“We believe the compassionate care that our nurses provide to their fellow community members is a living example of the mission and vision of both the DAISY Foundation and LincolnHealth,” she added.
