Edgecomb and Newcastle firefighters put out a chimney fire on Edgecomb’s River Road early Sunday, Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter said. The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m.

Potter said that when he got to the Rose home at 157 River Road, flames had lessened but were still going inside the chimney. With mutual aid from Newcastle Fire Department, the fire was extinguished and the chimney cleaned.

No one was hurt in the effort, Potter said. Roads were slick from new snow, he said.

Firefighters left the scene shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday, Potter said.
