The perks of membership
There are definite perks to being a member of Harbor Theater.
One of which is the opportunity to attend twice yearly free Members Only film events. The first of those in 2023 is being presented on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. “Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf” (2017, Documentary, 1hour, 15minutes) will inspire your spring gardening! To further enhance your enjoyment and understanding of the film, Sarah Callan, interpretation & exhibits program manager at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, will briefly introduce the film and the work of this master landscape artist. Sarah confided “I'm so excited to be able to introduce this film. I formerly worked for Glimmerglass Film Days in Cooperstown, NY while I was in grad school there and had the pleasure of meeting (filmmaker) Tom Piper when we showed this film in 2018. Such a wonderful film!”
“Oudolf is credited with founding the New Perennial Movement, which champions gardens that use grasses and plants that grow back yearly. His designs are dazzling in scale and feature an abundant range of flora. The result? Gardens that feel like natural meadows and landscapes, where structure is just as vital as color.” Elise Taylor, Vogue
The Members Only May 16 event will begin at 6 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception, followed by Sarah Callan’s introduction. The film will begin at 7 p.m.
Another definite benefit of being a Harbor Theater member is an invitation to the June 11 Donor Appreciation Gala. Invitations were mailed late in April, but you still have one week to become a member and join the fun! Deadline for RSVPs to the event is May 15. This special Gala celebrates the accomplishments of the nonprofit cinema’s first five years, made possible by the generosity of our donors and members.
The fun begins with a red-carpet photo entrance, followed by a light champagne reception during which a slideshow and videos telling the Harbor Theater’s story will entertain guests, culminating with a screening of “That’s Entertainment!” (G,1974, 1h 50m). Even if you are not a fan of movie musicals or prefer not to dress up for the red carpet, we would love to share this celebration with you. Feel free to come visit with us at the reception from 6 to 7 pm, even if you do not want to stay for the film. This event is open only to Harbor Theater members and donors, but you still have time to join before May 15!
Individual memberships are $40; family memberships are $75. Your membership helps us to maintain our updated theater facilities, computer systems and digital projector; offer a regular schedule of first run films, independent and art films, documentaries, and festival films; present filmmakers, directors, and experts to introduce films and generate discussion of issues that affect our lives; and expand our programming to increase our audience and preserve the theater as a community asset.
Benefits of membership include $2 off regular ticket prices, weekly exclusive newsletter of current movies and events, and admission to members-only events. A family membership allows you and up to four (4) family members to take advantage of the member discount. Plus, you can use your membership card for discounts at Maine theaters including Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville, The Strand in Rockland and Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta.
