Peter Gallway and The Real Band open Winter Concert Series
The Chocolate Church Arts Center, at 804 Washington St. in Bath, will present the first in a series of winter concerts on Saturday, Jan. 18, with a performance in their annex space from Peter Gallway and The Real Band.
Gallway, who has released over 25 albums and produced more than 50 for Warner/Reprise and various independent labels, was a popular fixture in the Maine music scene in the 1980s and 90s. He then spent almost two decades in California, but with his return to Maine in recent years, he has seen a resurgence with The Real Band. The group features Gallway on guitar and vocals, along with Mark Wainer also on guitar and vocals, and Andrea Re (who has performed with the likes of Jackson Browne and Garland Jeffreys) on percussion and vocals. The group’s music spans styles from 60’s rock and roll, to jazzy folk, to atmospheric Americana.
Called “a master of free verse” by the Boston Globe, Peter Gallway was a founding member of the influential Greenwich Village-based group, The Fifth Avenue Band, whose self-titled album was produced by Zal Yanovsky and Jerry Yester of The Lovin’ Spoonful. Gallway has also worked with acclaimed singer-songwriter Annie Gallup, and produced the Grammy-nominated album “Bleeker Street: Greenwich Village in the 60’s.”
Tickets for Peter Gallway and the Real Band in the annex are $12 advance or $15 at the door. Tickets for this, and all shows at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, can be purchased at www.chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling 207-442-8455.
