S4S bake sale at Ames July 13

Tue, 07/09/2024 - 8:45am

Have a desire for something sweet? On Saturday, July 13, from 7:30 to 1:30, Set for Success (S4S) will host a bake sale at Ames Supply, Bath Road (Route One) in Wiscasset. All funds generated will be applied to its school supply mission. As all grades, Pre-K to grade 12, are now to be included in this initiative, more funds need to be generated.

Wiscasset students are invited to take advantage of the opportunity to ready themselves for the  school year. In its first few years of operation, Feed Our Scholars/Set For Success, in partnership with Wiscasset Parents in Education (PIE), focused on supporting the elementary level students. Last year, S4S expanded its reach to provide for the middle school students. Finally this year, the group is determined to provide the opportunity to the whole school population. Homeschooled students who would go to Wiscasset schools are also welcome to join in.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., all Wiscasset families are invited to go to Wiscasset Community Center to celebrate community and the upcoming school year. Firstly, students are able to pick up their teacher-recommended school supplies. They are also offered a red and black backpack with school insignia to put their supplies in, or students can bring their own backpack if that is preferred.

At the same time, people can check out many community support groups’ informational displays, get a haircut, eyes checked, find some new-to-you school clothes, have lunch, and check out the touch-a-truck area in front of the Community Center.

If you would like to sponsor the cost of a child’s school supplies or otherwise donate so that Feed Our Scholars/Set for Success may purchase the requested items, send a check for whatever you feel comfortable providing to St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, Maine 04578, with Set For Success in the memo line. St. Philip’s Church is a 501(c)(3) organization.

In-kind donations of supplies are also welcome and can be dropped at the Wiscasset branch of the First Bank on Gardiner Road, at Wiscasset Community Center this week at PIE’s Stuff the Bus event,  at First Congregational Church, or St. Philip’s Church. Or check out the Amazon wish list at tinyurl.com/S4S2023 and do your shopping there. What could be easier than that?
