Set for Success in Wiscasset Aug. 14
Wiscasset’s Feed Our Scholars is reaching out to all to consider making a contribution to our 2022 Set for Success initiative. Regardless of financial ability, all students are given the items so that no one feels unduly anxious if they struggle to supply the items themselves. Set for Success levels the playing field. This is a financially challenging undertaking, but one the group is resolved to accomplish, as it has in past years, even as the current economic conditions make it more challenging and also more necessary.
During the pandemic, Set for Success provided materials to the classroom teachers to be disseminated; there was no fun community event. But, as Mary Coventry, chairperson of the Set for Success committee writes: “We are incredibly pleased to announce that we are planning the return of our in-person event this year! Mark your calendars for Aug. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Wiscasset Elementary School on Federal Street. Students will shop for their classroom needs and receive a snappy red backpack complete with the school’s wolf paw insignia, the school mascot.
The event will be a true celebration with a host of county-based groups taking the opportunity to inform the public about their offerings. A mini touch a truck event will be part of the day to experience one or more fire trucks, a police cruiser, and a school bus – if there are no emergencies, of course. Children will be offered bag lunches c/o Healthy Lincoln County’s lunch truck. CHOMP will offer materials about dental health. These and more help to make this a true time of community.
All financial contributions are welcome, no matter how small or how large. One can write a check to St. Philip’s Church with Set for Success in the memo line and send it to 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578.
We also are grateful for in-kind donations if you would prefer to shop for items yourself. To that end, an Amazon wish list has been created. It can be accessed at tinyurl.com/S4SWES2022. Your purchase will be shipped directly to St. Philip’s Church for warehousing until transfer for the Aug. 14 event.
Hot off the presses and onto the Feed Our Scholars website and Facebook pages, as well as the WES and PIE (Partners in Education) sites, is the new explanatory video created by Lee Arnott of Sweet Thunder Productions. It’s great fun, and easily understood.
