Singers invited to join new Hospice Choir
If you are a singer, or if you have a song in your heart, please consider joining the new Miles & St. Andrew Home Health & Hospice Choir.
The choir will provide comfort to hospice patients and their families through music by offering a soothing presence and comfort to people who are nearing end-of- life with short, peaceful serenades of a capella songs.
All those interested in learning more are invited to attend the informational meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5 in the Schooner Cove library on the Miles Campus of LincolnHealth in Damariscotta.
Each year, Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice offers a comprehensive range of hospice services from companionship to highly-technical skilled nursing and therapy to over 200 hospice patients in Lincoln and Knox Counties.
Inspired by the Solace Choir from the Camden area, Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice plans to coordinate visits of small choir groups (two to four singers) to area hospitals and long-term care facilities and in private homes at the request of hospice patients or family members. Selections of songs may be chosen by the patient, their family, or by the group.
Singers will be expected to rehearse together periodically. When Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice determines a need or receives a request to perform, an email will be sent to members to determine availability to sing on a given day. Volunteer singers must agree to:
• Attend periodic rehearsals based on group availability (times & location to be arranged).
• Attend an eight-hour hospice services overview training.
• Provide an email address for communications regarding hospice choir events.
• Submit to a background check and health screening which are provided at no cost.
Please RSVP by calling Connie Jones, Community Liaison at Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice at 563-4177.
