Bim Skala Bim formed in Boston, Mass., in 1983 as a Ska Rock band influenced by the bands in England’s 2 Tone movement, including King Hammond, as well as the music of the Clash, UB40 and Bob Marley, according to its website. This award winning band brings its sound to Mine Oyster on Sunday, Aug. 24, with King Hammond as an opening act.

Bim Skala Bim’s infectious Boston Blue Beata mix of upbeat 2 Tone Ska, rock ‘n’ roll, and a pinch of calypso with a substantial reggae undertone sound led them to be one of the premier bands kick-starting the Third Wave of Ska in the 1980s, according to its website.

Since they started out Bim Skala Bim released nine highly acclaimed albums. The band has won 10 Boston Music Awards, eight Boston Phoenix Reader’s Poll awards, and has ranked “Best of Boston” in Boston Magazine twice, according to its website.

In March of 2013, Boston Business Journal rated Bim Skala Bim’s “Bones” album #19 in their “Boston Top 40 Albums of All Time” list.

Bim Skala Bim has been touring this summer with King Hammond, a.k.a. Nick Welsh, as their opening act, and the gig in Boothbay Harbor is no exception. Welsh is a Grammy-winning musician/songwriter from Britain who began his journey into Ska in mid-1970's London. Over his decades-long career, he's played with some of the world's greatest Ska and Reggae artists: Laurel Aitken, RIco, Judge Dread, Prince Buster and Dave Barker.

With King Hammond and Bim Skala Bim on the same stage, on a hot August night, the one just before the new moon ... some major movin' and groovins' gonna go down!
