‘Starting Line’: Paintings by Nancy Custer Carroll
The Southport Memorial Library will host a show of oil paintings by Nancy Custer Carroll during the months of September and October. The show is titled “Starting Line” as Nancy cast off from her career two years ago and began painting.
The paintings on display include local and far-flung landscapes, classic sailing yachts, florals, and a fanciful mashup of Gauguin motifs. Many are for sale.
Searching to find her own voice as a self-taught painter, Nancy has been fortunate to participate in workshops led by the very fine young artists Emilie Lee, Katie Whipple, TJ Cunningham and Alex Venezia. All have inspired painting from life. Painting has become, for this painter, a journey in learning to deeply see the beauty Nature gifts us.
Nancy Custer Carroll summers in a cottage on Capitol Island acquired by her maternal grandfather in the 1920’s. She has been the sailing director at BHYC and a coach and Commodore at Southport Yacht Club. These days, when not roaming the coast painting, she’s sailing her beloved “Blithe Spirit.”
The Southport Memorial Library is located at Newagen. Open hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.and Thursday evenings 6-8.
