Strong winds creating outages
A total of 1,398 Lincoln County customers and 138 in Woolwich were among the 13,277 out of power across 13 counties as of 3:36 p.m. Sunday, Central Maine Power’s website at www.cmpco.com reported.
In Alna around 3 p.m., firefighters were manning the continued closure of Hollywood Boulevard as a Central Maine Power crew worked near a downed tree. The road had already been closed for about an hour, firefighters said.
CMP’s website listed five customers there as the only ones in town out of power; the count was higher earlier in the afternoon when Head Tide, Head Tide Church and West Alna roads also had outages, according to the site.
As of 3:36 p.m., CMP was reporting Dresden had 723 customers out of power; Bremen, 460; Whitefield, 133, Boothbay, 21, Nobleboro, 15; South Bristol, 14; Bristol, 10; Damariscotta and Jefferson, 6 each; and Waldoboro, 5.
The Woolwich outages were spread out over Middle, Old Stage, Hedge Ridge, River, Sam Moore, Stagecoach, Thunder, Barley Neck and Chopps Cross roads, Carjo, Carriage and Elizabeth Ann lanes and Stoney Creek and Swango drives, according to CMP.
A wind advisory remained in effect for the region until 6 p.m. Sunday, with 20 to 30 mph northwest winds and gusts to 50 mph expected, Nikki Becker, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Gray office, said in a phone interview shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
