A man and woman from Lewiston were hurt when the motorcycle they were on left Gilman Hill Road in Woolwich and landed in a ditch on Saturday, Sagadahoc County sheriff’s officials said.

Doug Conant, 47, told authorities he and passenger Naomi Conant, also 47, were riding the 2013 Victory motorcycle on the dirt road when the accelerator became stuck, Lt. Scott Stewart said on Monday, Aug. 3. Both were thrown off the motorcycle when it left the roadway; neither was wearing a helmet, Stewart said.

Both were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Doug Conant by Northeast Ambulance and Naomi Conant on a Lifeflight helicopter, Stewart said. He described their injuries as non-life-threatening.

The two have been released from the hospital, a CMMC spokesman said Monday.

The investigation is complete, with no charges being filed and no other factors being found in the Aug. 1 accident, Stewart said.

Woolwich Fire Department and Woolwich Emergency Medical Service also responded to the scene. The accident was reported at 4:47 p.m. Saturday, Deputy Brian Carlton said. The scene was cleared at about 5:40 p.m. There was no interruption of traffic due to the accident; Gilman Hill Road is a private road off Old Stage Road, Carlton said.
