In support of Gina Stevens
Dear Editor:
As a neighbor and friend of Gina Stevens, the current principal of the Wiscasset Middle High School, I was dismayed last week to learn of her being put on paid administrative leave. I know Gina’s qualifications for the job far exceed that of most high school principals, and her long career in education is totally unblemished. The effort to have the school board vote on her dismissal without any public information or participation is less than she, or the Wiscasset community, deserve. Fortunately, Gina has requested an open meeting, so the public can attend the school board meeting scheduled for Monday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. I hope that those who are concerned about how the Wiscasset school system is being run will attend this meeting. Perhaps we can all learn something from this process.
