Survival
Dear Editor:
On Oct. 13, President Biden, at a fundraiser, issued a dire warning, “We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis.”
In Maine, many are facing a cold and hungry winter. Store shelves are often empty and all items have had dramatic price increases. Children have been challenged like no other generation, with isolation, masks, loss of at least a year’s education, and a relentless and steady message of doom. They are dying at an unacceptable level from violence, drugs, and suicide.
Polls show most think the country is heading in the wrong direction and are losing hope their children will have a better life. Maine and the U.S. have had complete one-party rule for the last two years. It has been a test case of Democratic priorities and principles.
Tulsi Gabbard, former Democratic House member and presidential candidate, gave a harsh critique of Democrats in a statement given when she left her party. She said, “I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution.”
A popular campaign question asked many years ago was “are you better off than you were four years ago.” Today I would ask “can our country and state survive another four years if we do not change direction.”
Think carefully as you cast your ballot. It is not about a candidate’s eloquence, niceness, good intentions, or fake outrage on choice of words. It is about survival.
