Three things
Another school shooting massacre, this time in Florida. Let’s wake up, America, and do something about stopping this senseless violence. Even President Trump seems ready to get serious about discussing how we can stop these shootings. We are the land of the free, but some sort of gun control needs to be done. We are paying our U.S. Senators and Representatives good money to work on issues such as these. Let’s demand – thank you high school students for protesting and asking for action – that action be taken now.
My take on a lot of these shootings is that it begins at home. If there is no love, hate will fester in a child. Parents aren’t totally to blame, but children need to be fostered to learn right from wrong and be shown that life is important, that they are important.
It is a great time of year for basketball fans, especially Maine high school basketball fans. Games have been played since Friday in Portland, Bangor and Augusta. I haven’t kept up with all the scores, but Seahawk fans were treated to perhaps the best game of the entire tournament on Monday, as the boys team came from behind and defeated a very talented Waynflete squad by one point. We have been on the other end of such scores before so it was great to see the boys’ joy as they celebrated the win. Even if they go no further in the tournament, the most pleasant memory of the 2017-2018 season will be Monday’s comeback victory.
Weather – February sure has treated us well. A couple of storms but no real frigid temperatures and this week’s warm-up certainly helped get rid of a lot of the ice that had built up under the snow. But, remember the idiom: March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Let’s hope the lamb has already shown up.
