Time in a day
The following quote has been attributed to the famous martial artist and actor Bruce Lee: "If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done."
I agree. Every week I think too much about filling this space with words of wisdom, an opinion or two, or praise for individuals or groups ... and, more often than not, by Tuesday afternoon, I am either just starting it (like this week) or haven't even begun tapping the keys on my laptop for this column.
Yes, it is a column. As I announced when I took this gig, I am a "glass half-full" type of guy and not too opinionated, so editorializing is something I don't have a lot of time to devote to, as my job requires me to see that meetings, events and news gets covered, editing and processing the many news releases that arrive each week, posting those on the website, filing photos and anything else the "old guy on the block" is asked to do.
But I am a bit of a procrastinator. Just ask my wife. I do like to get things done, but I tend to think about things a lot before actually doing them. Why? I guess it's because I like to do things right the first time. But that doesn't happen all the time, either. I've never bought in to the fact that "In order to succeed, you must first be willing to experience failure." I hate failing. Even once. Most of my failures have been using hand or power tools of any kind. I am not a handyman. Just ask anyone who I may have assisted with such projects in the past.
OK, let's get to the point — there I am again, procrastinating — our outdoor spring projects await. Maybe you've got yours done already, but my property is still pretty wet. I am waiting for the sun and drying winds before beginning my clean-up detail — which this year includes fixing piles of grass torn up (unintentionally) by the "plow guy." If you are in the same boat, don't think about it too much. Just do it!
