Dear Editor:
After interviewing all candidates, I wholeheartedly endorse Julie Casson for third select person and Richard DeVries for the RSU12 school board representative. As a hardworking mother to some of the cherished children on our small island, I understand the importance of dedicated individuals who tirelessly work to improve our community's future.
Richard DeVries is an exemplary candidate for the school board representative role, having demonstrated commitment and expertise through his previous involvement on the board. His active participation on the financial committee showcases his understanding of the financial challenges our school system faces. Richard focuses on issues that matter to parents, such as transportation and preserving school choice. Furthermore, his budget awareness ensures the wise allocation of educational resources, benefiting our children and community.
I had the opportunity to serve with Julie Casson on the planning board and Fire Department, where our husbands both volunteer. Julie welcomed me warmly, encouraging me to have a voice and be active in our community. Her inclusive and empowering approach reflects her character and commitment to ensuring that every community member feels valued and heard. When my daughter and I had a frightful accident, Julie was on scene, providing care and kindness during the scariest moment of my life. In being there for my family in our moment of need, she has proven she would be there for all the families of Westport as well.
In addition to her caring nature, Julie is remarkably qualified. Her current involvement in various committees and past position as town clerk have equipped her with the necessary knowledge and expertise to navigate the intricacies of our municipal affairs. Simply put, she understands what the job entails and is fully prepared to serve the town in the most ethical and effective manner.
By electing Julie Casson and Richard DeVries, Westport will have representatives who diligently address our concerns, support our children's education, and ensure our voices are heard. Their proven dedication, experience, and focus on the well-being of our children and community make them the best choices for these crucial roles.
