A Waldoboro man who has been convicted several times of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act has been rearrested and charged with allegedly violating SORNA again.

Philip Gurney, 54, of Waldoboro was arrested on a warrant and charged with Class B failure to comply with the sex offender registry after he allegedly failed to register within the correct window in February. An arrest warrant for his arrest was issued in February, although he was just recently arrested.

Gurney has been convicted before of failure to notify the authorities: on Feb. 2, 2007, he was convicted in Portland Superior Court; on June 9, 2011, he was convicted in Androscoggin Superior Court; on Aug. 24, 2011, he was convicted at Cumberland Superior Court; and again in Cumberland Superior Court on April 24, 2012.

Gurney is currently (as of Friday, July 31) being held on $10,000 cash bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

Gurney is listed as living in Portland, according to the Maine Sexual Offenders website, which also states that he is a lifetime registrant.

Because he has previous convictions for the same crime, Gurney has been charged with a Class B felony, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.

He is currently scheduled to have a court date Sept. 28 at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Wiscasset.
