This week at the Harbor Theater
“Ticket To Paradise” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 44 minutes) - A divorced couple (Julia Roberts and George Clooney) team up and travel to Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago: get married. Screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9; Thursday, Nov. 10; Friday, Nov. 11; Saturday, Nov. 12; , Wednesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 17; Sunday, Nov. 13, 2 p.m.
“The joy of “Ticket to Paradise” comes not from its predictable plotting or razor-thin screenplay; it’s from watching Cooney and Roberts together, from observing how the sparks still fly….and watching them crack each other up.” - Jason Bailey, New York Times
“The Apartment” - (1960 – NR; 2 hours, 5 minutes) As of Nov. 1, 1959, mild mannered C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) has been working at Consolidated Life insurance company for about four years. Hoping to moving up the corporate ladder, he often works late; but only because he can't get into his apartment close to Central Park West. A handful of company executives use it for liaisons – on a rotating basis for their extramarital liaisons in return for a good word to the personnel director, Jeff D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray), who wants to use the apartment to meet Fran (Shirley MacLaine) with whom Baxter falls in love. Two shows at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 12.
“Edvard Munch: Exhibition On Screen” – (90 minutes) - In 2013, all of Norway celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944), one of the towering figures of modern art. The exhibition was hailed as a “once-in-a-lifetime show.” Many know Munch as the man who painted “The Scream” (four of The Scream paintings recently set a public art auction of record of $120 million), but his complete works are remarkable and secure his place as one of the greatest artists to have ever lived. “The Munch 150” exhibition was co-hosted by the National Museum and the Munch Museum, both in Oslo. With 220 paintings on show, it brought together the greatest number of Munch’s key works in one place. EOS film goes behind-the-scenes to show some of the process of putting the exhibition together – as well as providing an in-depth biography of a man. One show: Friday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30.
“Engaging, with sensitively rendered dramatic reconstructions.” -The Oxford Times
Coming soon: “The Banshees of Inisherin” – starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson – Nov. 18.
