This week at the Harbor Theater
“Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” – (PG; 1 hour, 44 minutes) - For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet. Academy Award® nominee Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious PiB as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Softpaws (Oscar® nominee Salma Hayek Pinault). Final shows at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Thursday, Jan. 5.
“She Said” - (R; 2 hours, 9 minutes) - The New York Times journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor publish a report that exposes sexual abuse allegations against powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. However, the film is not about Harvey Weinstein, or his abuses, or his trial. The focus is on the two reporters, their dogged pursuit of the truth, and their compassionate approach to the women whose testimony they needed to complete the story. The shocking story also serves as a launching pad for the #MeToo movement, shattering decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault and harassment. Plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6; Saturday, Jan. 7; Wednesday, Jan. 11, 7p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 7 p.m.; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.
“It’s been years — maybe as far back as “All the President’s Men” in 1976 — that a movie has captured the craft and the passion of journalism as precisely and as smartly as director Maria Schrader’s ‘She Said.’” – Sean P. Means, The Movie Cricket
“A Man Called Otto” – (PG13; 2 hours, 6 minutes) - Based on the # 1 New York Times bestseller “A Man Called Ove,” A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. Otto is ready to end it all, but his plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door, and he meets his match in quick-witted Marisol. She challenges him to see life differently, leading to an unlikely friendship that turns his world around. A heartwarming and funny story about love, loss, and life, “A Man Called Otto” shows that family can sometimes be found in the most unexpected places. Opens Friday, Jan. 13, 7 p.m.
“Dr. Strangelove” – A Classic Film Series feature - (1964 - PG; 1 hour, 35 minutes) - A film about what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button -- and it played the situation for laughs. U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely insane, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people. Stars George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, James Earl Jones, and Peter Sellers in three roles. Two shows only: Thursday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
