This week at Harbor Theater
“She Said” – (R; 2 hours, 9 minutes) - New York Times journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor publish a report that exposes sexual abuse allegations against powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. However, the film is not about Harvey Weinstein or his trial. The focus is on the two reporters, their dogged pursuit of the truth, and their compassionate approach to the women whose testimony they needed to complete the story. The shocking story also serves as a launching pad for the #MeToo movement, shattering decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault and harassment. Final two shows at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 12.
“A Man Called Otto” - (PG13; 2 hours, 6 minutes) - Based on the # 1 New York Times bestseller. Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks) is a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. Otto is ready to end it all, but his plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door, and he meets his match in quick-witted Marisol. She challenges him to see life differently, leading to an unlikely friendship that turns his world around. A heartwarming and funny story about love, loss, and life that shows family can be found in the most unexpected places. Screens at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13; Saturday, Jan. 14; Wednesday, Jan. 18; Thursday, Jan. 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15.
“In essence, it’s a wholly predictable film, yet the manner of its telling reveals such a wry and tender regard for Otto and the people who help bring him back to the land of the living ...” – Sandra Hall, Sydney Morning Herald
“Dr. Strangelove” – Classic Film Series – (1964/PG; 1 hour, 35 minutes) - A film about what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button - and it played the situation for laughs. U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely insane, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. Why? He thinks the communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people. Stars Peter Sellers (playing three roles), George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, James Earl Jones. Two shows only at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 14.
Coming soon: “Concerto – A Beethoven Journey” – Jan. 20.
