This week at Harbor Theater
“Marlowe” - “R; 1 hour, 45 minutes” - A gripping noir crime thriller set in late 1930’s Bay City, the film centers around a brooding, down on his luck detective; Philip Marlowe (Liam Neeson), who is hired to find the ex-lover of a glamorous heiress (Diane Kruger), daughter of a well-known movie star (Jessica Lange). The disappearance is the first twist in a series of bewildering events, and soon Marlowe is embroiled in a deadly investigation and web of lies that he’s determined to bring to light. Final shows at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 4.
“Thanks to the high-end production values, the juicy script and the vigorous performances from that first-rate cast, it’s great to see another iteration of Marlowe on the case.” —Richard Roper, Chicago Sun Times
“What’s Love Got To Do With It?” - (PG13; 1 hour, 49 minutes) - How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love. Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5; Saturday, May 6; Wednesday, May 10; Thursday, May 8; and Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
Coming soon: “Book Club: The Next Chapter” - (PG13; 1 hour, 27 minutes) - The original Book Club (2018) centered on four older women/best friends (played by Hollywood legends Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen) who attended a weekly book club together for 40 years. One of the book club’s selections was the erotic “Fifty Shades of Grey.” While reading it they began to see a change in how they view their personal relationships. The highly anticipated sequel, “Book Club: The Next Chapter” sees them take their book club to Italy for the fun girls’ trip they never had! Opens Friday, May 12.
Special Book Club Event for Thursday, May 18 - Rally your book club members, choose to all wear the same color tops (or some identifying accessory) and join us for a fun evening starting with visiting over wine and cheese at 6:30 p.m. and then enjoy the next chapter for these fabulous women (audience included).
