This week at the Lincoln Theater
Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for her stunning portrayal of Effie in the movie musical, “Dreamgirls.” Aretha Franklin hand-picked Hudson, to play her in “Respect.”
“The Green Knight “ - (R; 2 hours, 10 minutes) - An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend - The story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. Final screenings at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 and Thursday, Sept. 16.
“Respect” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 25 minutes) - Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, “Respect” is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice. Featuring an incredible cast, including Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, and more! Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Fri day, Sept. 17 (2 p.m. show limited seating/masks required); Saturday, Sept. 18; and Wednesday, Sept. 22. Screening at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 and Thursday, Sept. 23.
