This week at Lincoln Theater
“Don’t Worry Darling” - (R; 2 hours, 2 minutes) - Alice and Jack are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. From Director Olivia Wilde, starring Harry Styles, Chris Pine, and Florence Pugh. Final showtime Thursday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
“Baby Face” - (1933; 1 hour, 11 minutes) - The second film in Season 5 of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club celebrating the films of the Pre-Code Era in cinema. We will be joined by film historian and CFC host, Jeannie MacDonald, for a pre-film introduction and post-screening talk back. This film follows the sexual escapades of Lily Powers (Barbara Stanwyck), the beautiful daughter of a speakeasy owner. Lily’s dreary life in Pennsylvania takes a sudden turn when her father is killed in an accident. Unmoved by her father’s death, Lily, along with friend Chico (Theresa Harris), jumps on a freight train and seduces a worker to avoid being arrested. Now in New York City, Lily uses her beauty and sexual prowess to seduce a string of successful men as she works her way to the top of a banking empire. Playing Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets $8/adult, $6/members and Youth 18 and under. FREE for Classic Film Club Members.
“The Good House” - (R, 1 hour, 43 minutes) - “The Good House” follows Hildy Good (Sigourney Weaver), a wry New England realtor and descendant of the Salem witches, who loves her wine and her secrets. Her compartmentalized life begins to unravel as she rekindles a romance with her old high-school flame, Frank Getchell (Kevin Kline), and becomes dangerously entwined in one person’s reckless behavior. Igniting long-buried emotions and family secrets, Hildy is propelled toward a reckoning with the one person she’s been avoiding for decades: herself. Screens at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov .5; Sun Nov 6 at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2 and 7 p.m.
“La Traviata” – The Met Live in HD - (approx. runtime 3 hours, 11 minutes; 2 intermissions) - Soprano Nadine Sierra stars as the self-sacrificing courtesan Violetta—one of opera’s ultimate heroines—in Michael Mayer’s vibrant production of Verdi’s beloved tragedy. Tenor Stephen Costello is her self-centered lover, Alfredo, alongside baritone Luca Salsi as his disapproving father, and Maestro Daniele Callegari on the podium. Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. Tickets: $25/adult, $23/members; $5/youth 18 and under.
Coming soon: LCCT presents “Halfway There,” a comedy by Norm Foster, live onstage Nov. 17 – 26.
