This week at the Lincoln Theater
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson play feuding frenemies in Martin McDonagh’s latest film, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” opening Friday. Known for his previous successes “In Bruges” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” filmmaker Martin McDonagh has earned an adoring audience with his ability to find grace amid the grotesque. Add on the work of cinematographer Ben Davis, composer Carter Burwell, and costume designer Eimer Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh and you have “The Banshees of Inisherin” a film sure to show up on many nomination lists come award season.
“Decision to Leave” - (NR; 2 hours, 18 minutes (in Korean and Chinese with English subtitles) - A new mystery, thriller, and crime drama from critically acclaimed Director, Park Chan-Wook, known for the 2003 award-winning film Old Boy. From a mountain peak in South Korea, a man plummets to his death. Did he jump, or was he pushed? When detective Hae-joon arrives on the scene, he begins to suspect the dead man’s wife Seo-rae. But as he digs deeper into the investigation, he finds himself trapped in a web of deception and desire. Final showtimes Thursday, Dec. 22 at 2 and 7 p.m.
“The Banshees of Inisherin” - (R; 1 hour, 49 minutes) - Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, the film follows lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm, who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán and troubled young islander Dominic, endeavors to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer. But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences. Lincoln Theater will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24 and Sunday, Dec. 25.
