WES students talk with UMF ones
Fourth graders from Wiscasset Elementary School got to video chat with University of Maine at Farmington students before Thanksgiving break. The Book Buddy program, now in its second year, pairs WES students with students in the elementary education program at UMF to talk about the books they love to read.
The fourth graders write letters recommending books to the college students and, as part of their coursework, the college book buddy reads the recommended book and writes a letter back. Virtual meetings are held during the process to help the buddies build their connections. This project helps teach the college students how to give instruction virtually, and it gives the WES students a great way to expand their love of literacy.
The college buddies and the fourth graders look forward to reading more books and working together again very soon.
