‘Wild Things’ new show at River Arts
River Arts in Damariscotta invites the public to a “wild” opening reception on Friday, Aug. 16 from 5-7 p.m. An exhilarating exhibition juried by Anthony Anderson, publisher of the Maine Studio and Gallery Guide, will surprise and delight the audience with is exuberant interpretation of the theme, “Wild Things.” The show runs until Sept. 14.
With 208 submissions from all over Maine, Anderson carefully selected 80 works of impressive quality and vitality. Ranging from realistic images of nature to deeply felt, emotional, abstract expressions, this powerful show covers an expansive involvement of the artists with the theme. Full of surprises, vivid color and joyful expressions, this exhibition steps up to its title “Wild Things.”
The West Gallery features works of Barbara Bean, Ann Slocum and Martha Slocum. This show is sure to delight with its found object assemblages and beautifully painted collages. Meet the artists at the opening on Friday between 5-7 p.m. “Old Things & New Ideas” runs until Aug. 21.
The Invitational Hall continues the “6 x 6” fundraising show. This is a chance to find a small treasure and support the programming at River Arts. Artists have been replenishing the walls with their donated works. You will still have the opportunity to buy an original work of art for $20!
River Arts is a non-profit art center providing exhibition space for diverse shows for Maine artists.
