Wiscasset emergency crews respond to Bradford Road fire
One person was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Monday night following a mattress fire in a shed on Wiscasset’s Bradford Road, authorities said. The Wiscasset Police Department, Wiscasset Fire Department and Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded to the late evening call.
The injured person’s name was not immediately available. The home belongs to Katherine Burnham, Wiscasset Police Officer Willy Simmons said at the police station later. Simmons did not know how the person became injured.
It was not yet known how the mattress caught fire, Wiscasset Fire Chief T.J. Merry said back at the fire station after clearing the scene. Someone at the property at 63 Bradford Road extinguished the fire before he arrived, Merry said.
The fire did not threaten a home located 15-20 yards from the shed, Merry said. The shed received minor smoke damage; the fire was reported at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 14, he said.
