Wiscasset Feed Our Scholars bake sale fundraiser July 20 to aid Set for Success event
Mm—mmm: tasty treats await one and all at Ames Supply on Saturday, July 20, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., where Feed Our Scholars (FOS) is holding its bake sale. For a donation, small or large, take away home baked goodies, and in the process, help to fund backpacks and school supplies for each and every child attending Wiscasset Elementary School.
While FOS continues its central focus of providing proper weekend nutrition for privately referred children attending Wiscasset schools, there has been a challenge to the group to move on to include helping students be prepared with supplies for the start of the new school year.
In its first year of Set for Success, FOS is holding a free Back to School event at WES on Federal Street for Wiscasset students Pre-K through fifth grades who are accompanied by a parent or guardian. The program is designed to prepare every elementary student with basic back to school needs. Students will get a new backpack and teacher-required school supplies. In addition, students will be offered free haircuts by volunteer hair stylists. FOS is also lining up displays and event booths by some nonprofits and the business community to help provide information to our families.
How can you help our WES students as they start the school year “Set for Success”? FOS invites you to participate beyond buying sweets by:
– Donating some teacher-required supplies such as boxes of colored pencils; Crayola® washable bold markers, boxes of quart and gallon size reclosable storage bags, EXPO® Dry Erase thin markers, 3 X 3 post it notes, both 1- and 3-subject notebooks , three-ring binders, and clipboards, to name a few;
– Helping to fund the purchase of backpacks or other supplies for bulk purchasing. Checks may be made payable to St. Philips Church; write Feed Our Scholars in the memo line and mail it to Feed Our Scholars, c/o St. Philips Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, ME 04578;
– Volunteering to help with setting up, taking down and/or being on hand during the event;
– Contacting FOS if you know of a business or organization who may have information, handouts, or gifts of support for our families of students.
