Wiscasset man sentenced to prison for assault
A Wiscasset man who was accused of choking a woman has pleaded guilty to felony assault.
Jason Cloukey, 40, of Wiscasset pleaded guilty to Class B aggravated assault and will go to prison for nine months.
Cloukey pleaded guilty in September to the charge and was recently sentenced to five years in prison with all but nine months suspended and three years of probation. Cloukey will also have to undergo mental health evaluation and counseling; he has been court-ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Cloukey was arrested June 2 and charged with Class B aggravated assault following an incident that was spurred by photographs.
According to the arrest report filed by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Chubbuck, authorities were called following a domestic disturbance on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset on June 2.
Chubbuck reportedly spoke with the victim after arriving on the scene. According to the report, the victim began taking photos while Cloukey was asleep; when Cloukey awoke, he began choking her from behind.
The victim reportedly told Chubbuck that the force behind the choke was so severe that she was unable to breathe and claimed to have lost consciousness. According to the arrest report, Chubbuck could see marks where the victim had been grabbed on the throat. The victim was sent to Mid Coast Hospital for treatment, and Chubbuck photographed the marks.
Cloukey was then arrested and charged with the felony assault crime and held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $25,0000 bail.
Class B crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines. According to the Maine prisoner search database, Cloukey was not yet in custody as of Thursday, Oct. 15.
