Wiscasset officer on traffic stop unhurt in vehicle’s near miss
A passing vehicle came very close to striking Wiscasset Police Officer Nadean Crossley Jan. 8, Police Chief Troy Cline said.
Crossley was outside her cruiser on a traffic stop on Route 1, around lunchtime, when she heard a horn blow and felt a vehicle’s breeze. “She heard the horn and jumped out of the way,” Cline said in an interview Jan. 14.
The vehicle came so close to her, when Crossley jumped she went partly inside the vehicle of the driver she had stopped, the chief said.
“Both of them were shaken up. Neither of them was hurt.”
The incident happened so quickly, neither Crossley nor the stopped motorist she had been meeting with saw who went by or what they were driving.
“So we don’t even know the type of vehicle.” He would like to. Improper passing of an emergency vehicle with its lights on is an offense with a $311 fine; and it’s not the type of offense where he would only give a motorist a warning, Cline said.
If anyone saw the incident or has information that would help locate the driver, Cline asks that they call the department at 207-882-8202.
