WMHS's top senior scholars
Wiscasset Middle High School is proud to announce that two members of the Class of 2019 have earned the distinction of being a “Top Scholar." To be recognized as a Top Scholar, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The students are listed alphabetically.
Taylor Robertson is a student of exceptional caliber. As one of her teachers noted: "Taylor has all of the qualities of a successful student; excellent habits of work, acute and long-term time management skills, engagement with her studies and a keen mind that probes and makes connections to concepts and skills.” She has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and received the Wellesley Book Award her junior year for her intelligence, determination, motivation and achievement.
Taylor has participated in many clubs and sports - Civil Rights Group, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, the Outing and Volleyball Clubs - as well as playing in the band, for which she received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award her freshman year. Taylor displays a wide range of interests including teaching and helping others. She has attended environmental and leadership conferences, participated in the WMHS Poetry Recital, and for two summers she volunteered with the Title 1 Summer School Program at Wiscasset Elementary School. Throughout her senior year, she has participated in an every other day mentorship in a first grade classroom at WES.
Taylor will be attending Southern Maine Community College to earn a degree in Health and Human Services. She will then pursue a university degree in occupational therapy. Taylor is the daughter of Tracy and Jeff Robertson of Wiscasset.
Sydnie Thayer has blended strong academic performance with an enormous commitment to the well being of her school and community during her high school years. She has been a varsity basketball and softball player for four years, a varsity soccer player for three years and a cheerleader for one year. This year, she captained three teams. She received the Smith Book Award last year for her academic achievement, leadership qualities, and concern for others.
Sydnie has been president of her class for three years and also serves on the Student Council. She is known for her organizational abilities and for taking the lead in projects and tasks. Sydnie has helped plan and lead important community service events such as visiting veterans at TOGUS, blood drives, and gathering food for families in need during Thanksgiving. Sydie is also an active contributor in schoolwide activities such as Homecoming, Halloween Haunted House, and Prom. Sydnie underscores her pursuits with a friendliness and compassion for others, adding much to the school spirit at WMHS.
