Woman reportedly shot in Shaw’s parking lot
According to a release from the Bath Police Department, one person was sent to the hospital after a handgun was allegedly discharged in the Shaw's supermarket parking lot in Bath.
Lt. Robert Savary said in his release that officers are investigating a shooting that occurred in Bath Monday, Nov. 16 at approximately 3:45 p.m.
On Tuesday, Nov. 17 Maine Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a release that the woman, 22-year-old Chelsea Jones of Thomaston, was still at Maine Medical Center in Portland following the shooting.
According to McCausland’s release Jones was allegedly shot in the head by her boyfriend, 23-year-old Dylan Grubbs, also of Thomaston, accidentally. According to McCausland, Jones was sitting in the front seat of an SUV at the Shaw’s supermarket in Bath while Grubbs was allegedly selling a handgun in the parking lot. While Grubbs was allegedly showing the gun to the prospective buyer it went off, and injured Jones.
The police interviewed Grubbs, who continues to cooperate with the investigators. The potential gun buyer has also cooperated with police, who have taken the gun to the State Police Crime Lab for inspection.
State and Bath Police have continued to investigate the shooting.
According to Savary’s release, Bath EMS, Bath Police and the Sagadahoc Sheriffs all responded.
The woman was given medical attention and was sent via ambulance to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick then eventually to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
