Women’s Center welcomes midwife Monika Gulyas
Monika Gulyas’s calling to make a difference in the lives of women and to help them and their families through the life changing-events of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood led her to become a certified nurse midwife.
Gulyas joins Robert Howard, MD, OB/GYN; Deborah Eisenberg, MD, OB/GYN; Certified Nurse Midwife Bridget Buck; and Certified Nurse Midwife Stacey Rees at the Lincoln Medical Partners Women’s Center in Damariscotta. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing at Southern Vermont College and her master of science in nursing at Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky.
“My goal is to make women feel comfortable and empowered to make the decisions that are best for themselves and their families,” Gulyas explained. “What a lot of people don’t realize about nurse midwives is that we provide care beyond when a woman is giving birth. We see patients from the time they are teenagers to after they have gone through menopause.”
In addition to providing prenatal, birth, and post-partum support, Gulyas provides routine gynecology care including annual exams and Pap tests, perimenopausal and menopausal advice and care, screens and treats sexually transmitted infections, and provides birth control counseling and initiation.
Gulyas grew up in Cleveland, Ohio before living in Vermont, Minnesota, and Connecticut. Her desire to live near mountains and the ocean drew her to Maine, but LincolnHealth’s small community hospital drew her to Lincoln County.
When Gulyas is not seeing patients, she enjoys exploring Maine’s beautiful coastline, sewing, knitting, biking, hiking, painting, contra dancing, and playing the piano.
