Wood: White’s resignation takes effect
Wiscasset Superintendent of Schools Terry Wood was making plans Friday to meet Wiscasset Elementary School’s administrative needs through the end of the school year. Principal Stacy White’s resignation on the School Committee’s May 14 agenda was proposed to take effect at the end of the school year. Wood stated in an email response Friday, May 17, to the Wiscasset Newspaper’s inquiries, White’s resignation took effect May 16.
"She was given the option to stay until the rest of the school year or to have her resignation accepted effective immediately and she chose the latter option," Wood wrote of a May 16 conversation with White.
"I am working with the other administrators to create a plan to ensure we have coverage at the elementary school for the rest of the year," Wood wrote.
White confirmed in a phone interview the evening of May 16, she received her signed resignation from Wood earlier that day. White, a K-2 principal at Falmouth Elementary School starting July 1, said in planning to continue in the Wiscasset job through the end of the school year, she hadn't realized her unused personal and vacation days added up to the rest of the school year. Having the resignation take effect complies with the scheduled days of her contract, White said.
School Committee Chair Michael Dunn said May 16, the committee took up White's and others' resignations in an executive, or closed door, session May 14, then returned to open session and authorized Wood to handle the resignations how the committee instructed her to in the executive session. He said he could not say more due to confidentiality rules. He added, there is no ill will toward White and he wishes her the best in her career.
White said she expects to still come to the school to help in the transition. And she said she is excited to start her Falmouth job that will have her working with three other administrators.
