Woolwich ATV accident sends Wiscasset man to hospital
A 54-year-old Wiscasset man was hurt when the ATV he was riding in Woolwich on Dec. 27 rolled over on top of him, the investigating warden said Monday.
Sunday’s accident occurred early afternoon on P.J.’s Way, a private dirt road, District Game Warden Doug Kulis of the Maine Warden’s Service said. Jeffrey Pottle was the lone rider on the ATV; he did not lose consciousness but complained of neck and head pains and was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Kulis said.
Pottle was not wearing a helmet. Although the law doesn’t require adult ATV riders to wear helmets, people should, in order to help avoid injury, Kulis said in Monday’s telephone interview.
The accident remained under investigation. An update on Pottle’s condition was not immediately available.
In addition to the Warden’s Service, Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department, Woolwich Fire Department and Northeast Ambulance responded to the scene, Kulis said.
